August, what happened?! It’s come and gone with only a few hot days (sob!), but loads of great shoots and some huge personal highlights which deserved their own posts later – from a best friend’s wedding to my first solo trip in years.
Two weeks in, and I was really excited to be going to the launch party of the brand new and super swanky YouTube Space London, which has upped sticks from Tottenham Court Road to King’s Cross.
The Space has always been an amazing resource to us; you can sign up for free workshops and training there, mingle at networking events with other creators, or apply to use their top of the range facilities and equipment for your own shoots. It’s top quality, and the best support and advice for online video, straight from the horse’s (well, Google’s) mouth.
And the NEW space is something else – three floors, instead of one, amazing design, and kitted out for all your techy-est needs. For the launch they’d thrown in some extras, like pick and mix vendors and smoking cocktails made by men in white coats. I don’t think those are permanent features…
Hundreds of people packed the rooms that night. Myself, my friend Dan, and many One Direction-esque teenagers were among them; sharing the floor, the free drinks, and the many varieties of posh mac ‘n’ cheese with YouTube royalty like Jenna Marbles, The Body Coach, My Pale Skin, the lads from SORTEDfood, and also – quite inexplicably – Jedward.
I did a lot of chatting with a lot of creators, but finding out that Conor Maynard was doing a full acoustic set shut me up for a while. It was totally fitting to have onstage people who had YouTube to thank for their big breaks. I won’t lie, I used to have Conor’s covers on repeat (especially ‘Someone Like You’), so hearing him live was dreamy, and it was great to have the chance to practice shooting in low light.
Credit to YouTube for the incredible support they give creators of all sizes. The launch really summed up what an amazing platform and resource it is.
